20 Questions for DJ Spice

1. How long have you been involved in the scene
in this scene  a real long time 21 years .

2. What are your plans for the rest of this year?
I want to get my label foundation music back on track , I didn’t release much last year but this year im back on it . I also want to release some tracks of my own, ive got a few done so watch this space.

3. How did you get into what your doing
I’ve always been into music , my uncle and my dad used to buy records so ive always had vinyl in my life with the dj and producer stuff just a natural progression from that I guess.

4. Do you remember your first Rave
Yes I think it may have been in a club called oasis when I was about 14. it was in the same building as the Four Aces in Dalston but the side entrance

5. Can you remember your first play out?
Yea it was at a house party at about 15 years old in limehouse somewhere , used to be in a crew call the buzz boys we played rare groove and I used to mix it up.

6. Who in the scene inspired you to want to be a part of it?
That a difficult one because I kind of got into it when the rave scene started, I used to listen to Tnt and Beatfreak mixtapes  and think they were amazing and also a guy on Lwr called barry b who used to mix it up. Always loved the mixing part of it and trying to be a bit creative.

7. Do you feel the scene is in a healthy state ?
Kind of , its ok I would say, the recession has hit the numbers for some partys but its not as bad as it could have been , record sales are down but this is to be expected as new digital formats become more popular among consumers.

8. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I don’t know I just want to be healthy , I love what im doing now so I hope I will still be here to enjoy doing it.

9. What was the first record you bought ?
My mum reckons at about 5 I asked her to buy a record called “mad about you” I can remember though

10. What other types of music do you listen to?
I listen to everything , im very open minded when it comes to music. I like a bit of everything.

11. What tune are you excited about at the moment?
Ive done some tracks for my label which im going to release this year so I guess im excited about them also

12. What did you have for breakfast this morning?  Its 3pm now the phones been going all day so Nothing yet….. I know ,I know,  not good!

13. Do you play any sport?
No unless the X box counts, I don’t get the time really , by the time ive got everything I need doing in a day done im shattered working 14 hour days and then going out at night to dj. I do try to dance for a bit after my sets if that counts.

14. What football team do you support?
I support Arsenal because that’s the nearest ground to where I live so I guess they’re my local team.

15. What’s the most interesting place you have been to?
Barbados I guess, my mum comes from there, It was interesting to see where she grew up and I was good to meet the people, its an amazing place , I will probally go live there one day. Its paradise.

16. How many pairs of trainers do you own?
About 20 I think , That reminds me, I need to take some to the Oxfam shop  though because I don’t wear them anymore.

17. Do you have any pets?
Not at the moment but im getting some fish this month

18. When you was a raver Who was your favourite dj ?
I was never really a raver I started on Fantasy Fm doing radio then through that I became  a dj in a clubs and raves.

19. What’s your favourite Tv Show ?
Love Heroes but lately its been a bit up and down, family guy is always good for a laugh, ive just started watching the wire as everybody keeps telling me to watch it.
